Setting expectations for client-facing staff

My sister is a paralegal at a small criminal defense firm in Sacramento and asked me to help her draft some basic office policies. They've had a few awkward moments lately with how some staff show up dressed for client meetings. One intern wore ripped jeans and a hoodie with cartoon characters during a pre-trial consult, and it threw off the tone of the whole interaction. The firm has always been pretty relaxed, but now that they're growing and seeing more walk-ins, they want to set clearer expectations without making anyone feel called out. If anyone has a sample policy that's worked well in a similar setting, I'd love to pass it along.

Okay, here's how things should be dressed around here: If you're meeting with clients, please dress business casual. Think collared shirts, blouses, dress pants, or skirts. Dressing professionally helps our company look good

My sister liked your suggestion and agrees it's a good way to set expectations without making it personal. We're crafting a straightforward message that advises client-facing staff to wear clean, professional attire. She's considering, 'Business casual is expected for any scheduled client interaction,' and plans to include examples like collared shirts, dress pants, and closed-toe shoes. Does your policy cover hair or accessories, or is that decision left to supervisors? We aim to complete the draft by early next week, so it's ready for the staff meeting.
